Machinery and Equipment Valuation

Is your equipment still a truly strong asset? We determine the value of your machinery through a physical survey, technical judgment and the value basis that fits your objective.

The starting point

Your fixed assets are the engine of your profits

Knowing the real value of your machinery and equipment changes the quality of the decisions you can make about it: when to renew, how much to insure, what to back in a transaction and what to keep in operation.

We work with asset-intensive corporate groups, where the technical detail of each piece of equipment matters as much as the final value.

Value bases

Each objective calls for a different basis

The value basis determines whether the analysis serves what you need.

Market Value

For purchase and sale transactions and collateral support.

New Replacement Value

To align insurance coverage with the real cost of replacing the asset.

Realization Values

For assets out of use, obsolete or destined for scrap.

Financial Reporting

For accounting reports and compliance with international standards.

Cost Centers

Allocation of value by area, department or operating unit.

Reconciliation

Accounting records against the equipment that physically exists at the facilities.

Asset Control and Tagging

Identification, labeling and traceability of each asset.

Inventories and Insurance

Complete survey and technical support for coverage renewals.

How we work

The process, step by step

1

Defining the objective

We understand what you need the analysis for and which value basis applies.

2

Physical survey

On-site inspection, technical identification and registration of each asset.

3

Analysis and calculation

Determination of value with verifiable technical support.

4

Delivery and session

A document that explains the criteria, and a session with your leadership team.

Frequently Asked Questions

About machinery and equipment valuation

What does a machinery and equipment valuation include?
It includes the physical survey of the assets, the technical identification of each piece of equipment, an analysis of its condition and remaining useful life, and the determination of value under the basis that fits the objective: market value, new replacement value or realization value.
How long does a machinery and equipment valuation take?
The timeline depends on the number of assets and the number of locations. A survey at a single plant with an orderly inventory can usually be completed in weeks; operations with multiple sites take longer. Arias sets specific timeframes from the proposal stage.
What is the difference between market value and new replacement value?
Market value reflects what the asset is worth today in the market, taking its age and condition into account. New replacement value is what it would cost to acquire an equivalent new asset. Each basis serves a different objective: sales and collateral for the first, insurance coverage for the second.
What is fixed asset reconciliation?
It is the process of comparing what the accounting records show against what physically exists at the facilities. It reveals assets that were retired but remain on the books, equipment in operation with no record, and differences in value that affect the financial statements.
What documentation is needed to value machinery and equipment?
Typically technical data sheets, purchase invoices, current insurance policies and the location of each asset by plant. The initial diagnostic specifies what applies to your project.
What happens if the machinery is spread across several plants?
The physical survey is coordinated location by location, applying a single set of criteria and methodology across all plants so that results can be compared between sites.
What is the difference between accounting and tax criteria for depreciating machinery?
Accounting criteria under NIF C-6 (the Mexican financial reporting standard for property, plant and equipment) are based on the real useful life of the asset. Tax criteria apply fixed rates by asset category. The two can differ significantly, so it pays to keep them identified separately.
What tax depreciation rate applies to industrial machinery?
The tax criterion applies an annual rate of 10% to general industrial machinery under the Mexican Income Tax Law (Ley del Impuesto Sobre la Renta), equivalent to a tax life of 10 years. It is a different criterion from the accounting one under NIF C-6, which is based on the real useful life of the equipment.
How is the new replacement value of a machine calculated?
It starts from the cost of acquiring an equivalent machine today (including transport, installation and commissioning) with no depreciation deducted. This is the basis used to align insurance coverage with the real cost of replacing the asset.
